1 augustus Benefiet voor Balinese vogel in Taman Indonesia met Balinese dansen van DwiBhumi

Tijdens Bali-dag op zaterdag 1 augustus 2015 wil het mooie en intieme dierenpark Taman Indonesia (in Kallenkote, vlakbij Steenwijk) geld inzamelen voor de Begawan Foundation, een stichting in Indonesië die zich inzet voor de Balispreeuw, die helaas zoals vele vogelsoorten met uitsterven word bedreigd.

Van de Balispreeuw vliegen er op Bali nog slechts 20 vogels rond.

Er zijn in het Bali Barat natuurreservaat (West Bali) nog maar 20 exemplaren te vinden.

Door een succesvol fokprogramma binnen de dierentuinen gaat het echter weer de goede kant op.

 

 

De Balispreeuw is pas rond 1910 ontdekt. De vogel begeeft zich veelal in bomen en niet graag op de grond, in tegenstelling tot veel andere spreeuwensoorten.

DwiBhumi zal tijdens de Bali Benefietdag op 1 augustus o.a. de Balinese dans van de paradijsvogels (Cendrawasih), die eveneens met uitsterven is bedreigd, uitvoeren en een workshop “vogelbewegingen in de Balinese dans”  geven.

Will Birds of Paradise only survive in dance?

Due to their beautiful feathers various types of Birds of Paradise in Irian Jaya are now almost extinct. But also because of more recent problems, like the fact that Indonesia’s population is doubling every 30 years, deforestation, polution, overfishing and trade industry, many species of these colorful birds are now at risk (source WWF).

WWF Indonesia has set up an emergency project for the Sahul region in Indonesia – from the Lesser Sundas to the North Moluccas to the West and the border with Papua New Guinea to the East – so that hopefully in the future these birds will be able to perform their quite astonishing dances again.

Balinese choreographer Ni Luh Swasthi Wijaya Bandem found herself inspired by the feathers and movements of the birds of paradise during their mating ritual and created the tari Cendrawasih the the 1980’s.

This dance has now become one of DwiBhumi’s most populair dances. Whenever we have the chance before we start dancing, we take some time to tell our audience about the current situation of these birds in Indonesia and about the project of WWF and other organisations that take pity to these birds, like the Cornell Ornithology Lab.

Balinese ‘Indian Summer’ in Bilthoven – terugblik

Tijdens onze mooie nazomer eind augustus verzorgde ons (bijna) voltallig dansensemble o.a. een avondvullend programma in Bilthoven met Balinese en Sundanese dansen, uiteraard vergezeld van een interactieve uitleg over de achtergrond en betekenis van dans op Bali. Onze nieuwste aanwinst, de tari Kembang Girang – vrij vertaald de ‘dans van de Bont Gekleurde Bloemen’ – stond ook op het programma.

Gemiste kans? Geen nood, dit jaar staan we nog regelmatig op de planken! Houd je ‘mata’ op onze agenda gericht :-)!
