Op zaterdag 22 en zondag 23 oktober 2016 vindt het SANGASARI FESTIVAL / Celebrating Balinese Dance plaats in Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden.

Dansers uit Bali zullen voorstellingen en workshops verzorgen en er zijn interessante lezingen, interviews en films. Tevens kunt u genieten van Balinese cuisine!

Motivatie

Sinds 1931, toen de eerste Balinese dans- en gamelangroep Europa aandeed, is de liefde voor en interesse in Balinese cultuur in het Westen gestaag gegroeid. Al decennia lang nodigt ons artiesten uit Bali uit om hun cultuur te delen met geïnteresseerden. Anno 2016 spreekt de kunst en cultuur van Bali nog steeds tot de verbeelding.

De pas toegekende status van Immaterieel Cultureel Werelderfgoed door UNESCO aan negen (9) Balinese dansvormen, brengt de Balinese cultuur wederom voor het voetlicht. Deze bijzondere toekenning willen we vieren. Als één van de vertegenwoordigers van Balinese cultuur in Nederland zijn wij trots op deze erkenning en zijn wij van mening dat deze extra aandacht verdiend. Met steun van de Indonesische Ambassade en Museum Volkenkunde in Leiden kunnen we de Balinese dans meer op de culturele kaart van Nederland zetten.

Dansers van AyuBulan Dance Group uit Indonesië (aangevuld met dansers en musici woonachtig in Nederland), zullen onder leiding van maestro A.A. Ayu Bulantrisna Djelantik, voorstellingen en workshops verzorgen. Ook is er volop gelegenheid de dansers persoonlijk te ontmoeten!

AyuBulan Dance Group brengt ook een bezoek aan andere Europese steden, als Berlin en Sofia!

The SANGASARI FESTIVAL / Celebrating Balinese Dance takes place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd of October 2016 in the Museum of Ethnology (Museum Volkenkunde) in Leiden, close to the city of The Hague (Den Haag).

Dancers from Bali will give performances and workshops. There are interesting movies and lectures and you can also taste real Balinese cuisine!

Motivation

Since 1931, when the first Balinese dance and gamelan (type of indigenous musical orchestra) company visited Europe, the love for Balinese dance and culture has grown exponentially in the West. The newly allocated status by UNESCO to nine (9) Balinese dance forms as Immaterial Cultural World Heritage, brings the Balinese culture centre stage again.

We would like to celebrate this special award with you. As one of the representatives of Balinese culture in The Netherlands we are proud of this title given by UNESCO and we think it deserves more attention. With special support from the Indonesian Embassy (Rumah Budaya cultural program) and the Museum of Ethnology (Museum Volkenkunde) we can continue putting Balinese culture more on the cultural map in The Netherlands.

Dancers from AyuBulan Dance Group from Indonesia (complemented with dancers and musicians that live in The Netherlands), under guidance of maestro A.A. Ayu Bulantrisna Djelantik, will give performances and workshops. Also their will be plenty of opportunity to have a meet-and-greet with the artists!

AyuBulan Dance Ensemble will also tour to other cities in Europe, like Berlin and Sofia.
